A for Austria

I'd asked the man this question a few months ago - if there is one country in the world that you'd definitely want to visit, which one would that be. Without missing a beat, he said Austria. The home of Mozart and the home of apple strudel (I know I am mentioning music and food in the same sentence but isn't that what life is all about :D ) I am a mountain person. It's not that I don't like the beaches - I love them too but given a choice, I'd pick a mountain resort for a holiday than a beach resort.

The other reason why I love Austria (not technically Austria then, but it is now) is the state of Salzburg. If you've seen the movie "The sound of music" (I have, a million times over), you'd be bowled over by the beauty of this place. And I was secretly happy that the man said Austria because I really do want go to Austria, especially after watching the movie. I want to visit the abbey (if it still exists) where Maria was a novice and breathe in the scent of Alps.

What are the must see places in Austria? Have you been here? Any insights into tiny cafes, offbeat places? Do leave your comments on this blog.

with songs they have sung for a thousand years...."

  3. Good start to A to Z. Austria has been on my list forever. I was half-tempted to make a dash to Austria when we visited Germany. But decided Austria needs to be visited for itself and not combined with other destinations.

  13. My husband and I are beach lovers. But Austria completely blew us away - that too after just visiting one state - Tyrol. Innsbruck is heavenly, as is Wattens. Visit Old town in Innsbruck by night. It is lovely - street music, pop up cafes et al. I am so in love with the place, I plan to blog about Innsbruck for the letter I this challenge!

  15. Great start to the A to Z Challenge! I was actually torn between Austria and my chosen #DreamDestination of 'Argentina' because there is so much about Austria that I would love to experience. Heading up into the mountains sounds awesome but also exploring places like Vienna and Innsbruck would be really interesting.

And yes, Austria is always Maria and the Vontrapp family. Edelweiss, Edelweiss . . .
